Selling your car for export, also to a buyer from Italy
High mileage, diesel, ex-lease, a company van or damaged? Send us the details of your car (2008 or newer). We pass them on to car dealers abroad and forward any offer. Asking costs nothing and you decide yourself.
- Free and without obligation
- Cars from 2008 or newer
- Export transfer at our Hengelo desk
Is your car hard to sell in the Netherlands because of its mileage, its fuel or some damage? Selling it for export can be an option. We pass the details on to our network of car dealers abroad, and if one of them makes an offer, we forward it to you. You decide.
We do not buy cars ourselves. We act as an intermediary and arrange the export papers at our RDW-recognised desk in Hengelo, where we have handled export documents since 2015.
High mileage, diesel or damaged: cars that suit export
The service is meant for owners who want to sell their vehicle for export. Think of:
- cars with more than 200,000 km on the clock;
- diesel cars;
- ex-lease cars;
- company vans;
- damaged cars.
The car must be from 2008 or newer. If it has damage, describe it honestly and add photos, so that any offer is based on the real condition of the car.
From photos to an offer: the four-step sale for export
- You send the details of the car and photos, for example by WhatsApp or with the form on this page.
- We pass the car on to our network of car dealers abroad, who can make an offer.
- We forward any offer to you, and you decide yourself.
- If you accept, the transfer for export can take place at our desk in Hengelo.
Asking for an offer is free and without obligation. There is no certainty that an offer will come, and an offer comes from a car dealer abroad, not from us. The buyer pays for the export papers, and for export insurance and plates if the car is driven away.
What to send for an export offer
- The registration number, make and model.
- The year of manufacture and the mileage.
- The fuel type.
- The condition and any damage.
- Photos of the car and of any damage.
You can send everything by WhatsApp. The form on this page has no upload field, so photos and documents go through the WhatsApp button next to it, or by email.
Transfer for export: how the car changes hands
When a car is sold to a buyer abroad, it is not transferred into the buyer's name in the Dutch register. The RDW advises that the buyer exports the vehicle in their own name. The buyer receives the export certificate, which the Dutch call kentekenbewijs deel II (registration certificate Part II), and the seller receives the indemnity certificate (vrijwaringsbewijs) as proof that the Dutch registration has stopped. If the buyer drives the car away, they can also take export insurance and two white export plates.
For the transfer we need, among other things, the registration card with its code (or the older paper parts), the yellow Dutch plates, which are handed in, the current mileage, the buyer's full address abroad and a valid identity document of the person in whose name the export is arranged. Which papers go where is explained on Dutch car export documents.
Your own Italian buyer: export in the buyer's name, registration in Italy
Have you found a buyer from Italy yourself? Then the buyer exports the car in their own name and arranges the Italian registration (nazionalizzazione) there: a VAT check at the Agenzia delle Entrate and an application to the Motorizzazione and the PRA, usually through an STA. The steps are on importing a car to Italy.
If the buyer cannot come to the Netherlands, the RDW allows a contact person in the Netherlands to arrange the export. For the drive, see Dutch export plates: the rules for export plates vary by country, so the buyer checks the route beforehand or uses transport.
Damaged cars and the Italian inspection before registration
In Italy a car that has had an accident or is badly damaged must undergo a visita e prova (inspection before registration) at the Motorizzazione before it can be registered. Tell an Italian buyer about any damage in advance, so that they can plan for it. For an overview of the whole route, see exporting a car from the Netherlands to Italy.
